WHO ARE THE BC ANIMAL WELFARE COALITION?

Royal City Humane Society

Registered as a charity in 1995, the Royal City Humane Society encourages spaying and neutering of pets to end pet overpopulation. We also care for stray animals by testing for disease, spaying or neutering them and tattooing and either finding homes for them, or (if they are feral and there is a feeding station nearby) returning them to where they were found. At this time, we receive one provincial gaming grant of $14,000.Our operations are paid for by memberships, donations, adoption fees and fund raising events. We are 100% volunteer-run. We voiced our concerns about the SPCA as part of the community consultation process and we feel that since then little has changed in the day to day operations. We joined this coalition because we want the same rules to apply to all animal welfare groups and we want the SPCA to be held accountable for their actions.

CITIZENS YELL for ACCOUNTABILITY

Based in Vancouver with a province wide directorship, CYA is comprised of former SPCA volunteers, other animal lovers and professionals experienced in animal welfare.

CYA aims to promote and protect animal welfare and related donations
through the active call for an independent ombudsman to oversee and ensure that the BCSPCA is accountable, transparent and fair in the course of its governance and operations. Therefore, our participation in this Coalition was ensured; changes to provincial legislation that would include the BC SPCA under the Society Act is a good first step toward CYA's mission.

CHILLIWACK'S CONCERNED CITIZENS

Chilliwack's Concerned Citizens were born out of the concern of former volunteers of the Chilliwack SPCA and other concerned animal lovers of the community. We know that it is only a matter of time before the Chilliwack SPCA does close its doors and we, the CCC, are working to provide an alternative for the animals before that happens.

Over the years of volunteering with the Chilliwack SPCA, we have experienced different levels of frustration with both management and staff.

We support this coalition so that we can work together to make the BC SPCA transparent and to put pressure on the provincial government to ensure democracy in the process. We believe that the Society Act must apply to the BC SPCA just as it does to other charitable organizations.

We don't have a website yet.

VDACS is a registered charity which provides financial assistance to low income pet owners for spaying and neutering their cats and dogs. Since January of this year we have issued 150 spay/neuter certificates. We also help out with emergency vet bills;we pay for animals to be examined by a veterinarian and, if we have the funds, we pay for treatment. Low income individuals are asked to pay us back, little by little, but very few actually do.VDACS also shelters cats and kittens in foster homes. All cats are spayed or neutered before adoption; all kittens come with a certificate paying the total cost of spaying or neutering plus tattooing.

VDACS is 100% volunteer. Our funds are raised by personal donations from our members [ 140 ] and supporters, and by fundraising events like garage sales, book sales, hot dog sales, bake sales, raffles etc

Second Chances.

Our mission is to aid in the adoption of dogs who are in need of a Second Chance at a loving home.

We work with shelters, rescue groups and personal surrenders to place dogs in appropriate homes.

From the initial home check to the follow up visits, we monitor each adoption closely.
Happily, we now have a total of 38 dogs safely enjoying their new homes and families.
